Locked On Auburn Hit - Quick Takes on Auburn Tigers Football & Basketball

Auburn’s Biggest Offensive Problem ISN’T Byrum Brown

Episode Summary

Auburn football needs Byrum Brown's legs against Tennessee, but Alex Golesh has a much bigger problem to solve if the Tigers want a sustainable rushing attack: the offensive line. Golesh acknowledged Auburn continues discussing how much to use Brown as a runner. His rushing ability can completely change the offense, but asking your starting quarterback to carry the football 15 or 20 times every week creates obvious durability concerns. Especially with the SEC schedule Auburn has coming. The Tigers have talented running backs. Jeremiah Cobb showed what he can do attacking the edge on the game-sealing run against Vanderbilt, with Keshaun Singleton providing a key block. Omar Mabson and Bryson Washington also deserve opportunities. But somebody has to create room for them. Auburn continues searching for its best offensive line combination. Cole Best remains important at center, but the Tigers need more consistent movement from the interior. The coaching staff also made two more changes against Vanderbilt after previously changing combinations against Florida. Joe Simmons could factor back into the conversation at left tackle, while Wilson Zierer, Mason McManus and Stanton Ramil are among the pieces Auburn is trying to fit together up front. Eventually, Auburn needs to settle on a group and allow that offensive line to develop chemistry. Brown can provide an immediate solution with his legs against Tennessee. But if Auburn wants its running game to work throughout this brutal SEC stretch, the offensive line has to become part of the solution. #AuburnFootball #ByrumBrown #WarEagle Photo Credit: Jake Crandall imagn Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
