Auburn’s biggest matchup against Vanderbilt might be one that isn’t getting enough attention. On this Auburn HIT, Zac Blackerby breaks down Vanderbilt edge rusher Miles Capers and the challenge he presents for Auburn offensive tackles Joe Simmons and Stanton Ramil. Auburn’s offensive line has been under the microscope throughout the season, but much of the attention has focused on the interior. Against Vanderbilt, the Tigers also have to deal with a dangerous edge defender in Capers, who missed last season’s matchup between these teams. After Auburn allowed seven sacks against Florida, protecting Byrum Brown has to improve. That responsibility doesn’t fall entirely on the offensive tackles. Brown needs to recognize where pressure could be coming from and get the football out quicker, while Auburn’s play calling also has to put the offense in better situations. Zac also explains why he wants to see much more from Jared Smith on Auburn’s defensive front. Vanderbilt quarterback Jared Curtis has shown an ability to get the football out quickly, creating an interesting challenge for DJ Durkin. Will Auburn unleash Smith as a pass rusher, drop him into coverage or use a combination of both? Either way, Auburn needs to affect the quarterback and win more battles in the trenches Saturday. #AuburnFootball #WarEagle #AuburnTigers Photo Credit: Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
