Omar Mabson has earned the opportunity to become Auburn football's starting running back coming out of the bye week. Jeremiah Cobb remains an important part of Alex Golesh's offense, but the sample size is becoming difficult to ignore. Auburn simply looks different when Mabson gets the football. He's physical. He consistently falls forward. And most importantly, he could provide an answer to Auburn's biggest offensive problem: painfully slow starts. Against Tennessee, two of Auburn's first three plays were designed for Cobb, and the Tigers quickly punted. Similar offensive issues have appeared against Baylor, Florida and Vanderbilt. So why not change something? That doesn't mean Cobb disappears from the offense. Auburn can still utilize Cobb, Mabson and Bryson Washington. But Mabson has earned more touches, particularly early in games when Auburn desperately needs to establish some rhythm. The bye week gives Golesh an opportunity to reevaluate the rotation before facing Georgia. Auburn also has another potential lineup decision at cornerback, where Gavin Jenkins could push for more opportunities alongside Rayshawn Pleasant and Champ Anthony. But the easiest change might be in the backfield. Give Omar Mabson the football and see what happens. #AuburnFootball #OmarMabson #WarEagle Photo Credit: Randy Sartin IMAGN Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
